Artist Statement

Many in this world do not want to see us dance. We are conditioned over and over again to move our bodies in ways that are only to our own detriment and to others’ benefit. I seek to make us all dance. Even when it feels like the wrong place and wrong time, even when we don’t trust our own bodies, even when we don’t know how to communicate with it. I strive to upend movement repression and subvert movement patterns as they exist in the dance studio or in everyday life. My work is mindful of transcending community boundaries and fostering radical interpersonal dialogue through active collaboration with diverse movement experiences. I seek to bring dancers of various dance histories and backgrounds together in a shared space so that we may learn from one another. I am committed to making dance accessible to all those who wish to participate as a viewer or a mover. The more we dance, walls begin to collapse and bridges become built. It is the key to unlocking embodied empathy, something this world desperately needs to sustain itself.
