Noise Reduction

A Work-In-Progress

(2024)

What does it truly mean to 'not listen'? NOISE REDUCTION is an exploration of the multifaceted nature of this inaction, examining its potential for both harm and liberation. We delve into the reasons why we might choose to ignore our inner voice, disregard the advice of others, or tune out the world around us. How does this act of 'not listening' become embodied? How does voice and power shape our movement, encouraging suppression or inspiring resistance? Through improvisational scores and manipulated phrase work, this piece seeks to answer these questions and invite the audience to consider the potential relationships between listening and liberation.

The development and research for work was supported by the Decatur School of Ballet’s Meli Kaye Artist Residency from September to December 2024.

Planned final production will be presented in June 2025.
